As managing partner and founder of Appian Capital, Mr. Lotter is primarily responsible for developing relationships with real estate operators, structuring investments, overseeing the management of our investment strategies and expanding the company’s capital base. He also sits on the Appian Capital Investment Committee.
Mr. Lotter began his career in institutional capital management at Franklin Templeton and Barclays Global Investors (now BlackRock) before founding Appian Capital in January 2000. Mr. Lotter built a successful mezzanine lending and joint venture equity platform through Appian Capital to address the then high demand for this type of financing among real estate operators and developers focused on the core commercial property types – office, industrial, retail and residential.
With over 25 years of investment and real estate transaction experience, Mr. Lotter has directed the investment in over $1 billion of real estate comprising 3.5 million square feet of commercial property and 3,000+ residential units. Mr. Lotter earned his B. A. degree from the University of California, Berkeley and lives with his wife and three children in Marin County, California.
